When I switched to coaching as a career, during my starting journey I experienced that there was a lot of “tell” in the Coaching & Training Industry.

“Do this and you will crack it”, “Do it this way”, “Do it consistently”, “Follow me blindly”, and so on and so forth. They may be right to some extent. But the solutions did not change my circumstances. That’s how my learning journey looked at the beginning. My starting journey as a Coach was even scarier. What emerged from the experience was huge learning – We humans have a tendency to look for immediate solutions and these solutions should also suit our personality and circumstances. While I was desperately looking for a solution to break through this confusion I came across a learning session with an ICF Coach who explained the difference between the different modalities of Mentoring, Teaching, Consultation, and Counselling vis-a-vis Coaching. I also felt a lot of resistance from people to apply and neither did prospects But somehow things weren’t joyful for me on any fronts – personal or work. The excitement of being a new entrepreneur started fading away. On probing a little deeper, I found that I missed the basic aspect of change to happen.

We cannot expect different outcomes without changing the thinking that resulted in an unacceptable outcome. I realized there’s a lot that needs to change in me before I begin my journey as a Coach. It was during the same period that I got more clarity on what the coaching philosophy is all about.

In this article, I have made a sincere attempt to explain the Coaching philosophy from my transformed lens which turned out to be a life-savior philosophy for me.

The International Coaching Federation (ICF) defines coaching as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.
